THE TRUTH ABOUT TAP WATER
Recent analysis of municipal drinking water have shown that, despite government regulations, there are still many dangerous contaminants present in our water. This is noted even after it has gone through municipal water treatment facilities.
In fact, these water treatment facilities often actually contribute to the problem. They add dangerous chemicals to water as part of the treatment process. These chemicals include fluoride and chlorine. The water regulations and treatment methods used in the U.S. are old and outdated. They do little to address the assortment of toxic chemicals that are currently present in our environment. The Safe Drinking Water Act only regulates 91 potential water contaminants. Yet there are more than 60,000 chemicals used within the U.S., many of which have been identified as probable carcinogens. According to some estimates, there are now more than 2,100 known chemical toxins present in U.S. tap water. Additionally, many municipalities transport their water in antiquated, corroded pipes. This process may leach toxic heavy metals into the water after it has been treated.
Here’s a rundown of some of the chemicals that are more than likely lurking in your tap water: lead, arsenic, pharmaceutical drugs, hormones from birth control pills, pesticides, recreational drugs, chlorine, fluoride, radio active contaminents, e-coli. Not all water is created equal. Tap water, for instance, contains fluoride. The truth is that ONLY about 5% of the world is current fluoridated. Of the 5% of the world population that is fluoridated, 50% of these citizens reside in the United States. Other countries have rejected fluoridation due to a wide variety of health concerns, with one primary factor being thyroid damage. Even China, who ships in our sodium fluoride, has voiced massive opposition to water fluoridation in the past. Many other countries have also decided against fluoridation due to the health risk. This argument would be somewhat effective if there were not so many studies highlighting the harmful effects of fluoride. In addition to the studies, officials from around the globe have been calling for an end to fluoridation since its inception. The Department of Health in New Jersey found that areas with fluoridated water had between two and seven times higher bone cancer rates than communities that were not fluoridated. In another famous study, neurotoxicologist and former Director of toxicology at Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix found that even moderate levels of fluoride exposure led to varying degrees of brain damage. The damage was caused due to fluoride building up in the brain. We are water. Improve your water and improve your life.
Water is involved in all bodily functions: digestion, assimilation, elimination, respiration, maintaining temperature (homeostasis) integrity and strength of all bodily structure for cells to grow, reproduce, regenerate and survive. Today, the water is polluted with hundreds of toxins and impurites. Authorities only test for a small number of them. Your body, being primarily water, requires sufficient daily water replacement in order to function efficiently. Water treatments, that are aimed to rendor our drinking water bacteriologically safe have been proven ineffective by the presence of certain pathogenic bacteria, estrogenic compounds (from use of contraceptives), pharmaceutical medications and household and industrial compounds in our drinking supply. Viewing the effects of individual chemicals, inorganic minerals and their by products, you can see a link to today’s major diseases. If you drink impure water how can you expect vitality and health? THE WATER YOU DRINK BECOMES YOUR BLOOD
“Water is living. The majority of your body is water. As we age, we dehydrate. An infants body is ~75% water, while an adult averages 50-60% water. Dr. Batmanghelidj, in his book, Your Body’s Many Cries for Water, argues that thirst is not the only sign of dehydration, but many common ailments are actually the result of dehydration. Dehydration can be caused by a few different factors: poor quality water, insufficient water or excessive water. The water you drink becomes your blood”. Environmental Pollution
The fact remains, modern society has degraded the quality of the water around us due to our poor environmental habits. This has led us to a point where high quality drinking water can be difficult to find.
Water supplies are safer in the United States then they used to be but plenty of old and new dangers still lurk beneath the surface. In a 2009 report, the EPA warned that “threats to drinking water are increasing,” adding that “we can no longer take our drinking water for granted.”
“While we’ve cut the flow of many conventional pollutants into our tap water sources, we now face challenges from other pollutants from less conventional sources,” Jackson said in a March 2010 speech announcing the EPA’s new water plan. “Not the visible oil slicks and industrial waste of the past, but the invisible pollutants that we’ve only recently had the science to detect. There are a range of chemicals that have become more prevalent in our products, our water and our bodies in the last 50 years. Those many thousands of chemicals are the great unfinished business of the 1974 Act.”
Most U.S. water providers comply with federal regulations, and they’re legally required to report their compliance status to customers, but isolated risks aren’t uncommon. The EPA has acknowledged underreporting problems with drinking-water violations, suggesting the true number is even higher. “The majority believes that everything hard to comprehend must be profound. This is incorrect. What is hard to understand is what is immature, unclear and often false. The highest wisdom is simple and passes through the brain directly into the heart” – Viktor Shauberger
